Mail Act-On – Acknowledgment Mail

Something useful I just now learned Mail Act-On has: A “reply to message” action with custom text:

You can stack rules in Mail Act-On, too, so with a quick `a, I can send an acknowledgement mail, color the message so it stands out and assign it a MailTags keyword.

That makes it a lot easier for me to stay in the habit of acknowledging incoming content from writers I work with, which means we all rest easier where the company’s occasionally overzealous spam filters are concerned.

Another thing that will help in this is coming in the next update to Act-On.

Act-On 2.1 will let you run rules on prior messages (a prior message is the message that is before the current message in a conversation)

This means that you can tag, untag, move messages that you sent when you receive the reply. So in your scenario, a quick `a will send an email, color the message, give it a keyword, and look for the earlier message you may have sent and file it away.

It also works on outbox rules (the prior message in this case is the message you are replying to) So the very act of responding to an email can cause the original message to be filed, tagged, etc etc.
