Oh, Cool

From the BBEdit 8.6 release notes:

BBEdit now features built-in support for Markdown, with the function popup used for navigating elements in the file, and folding support.

If you choose “Preview in BBEdit” when a Markdown source file is in front, BBEdit will run your Markdown source through the Markdown script, and so your preview reflects what the file will look like in a web browser. Like the previews of HTML source files, the Markdown preview will update as you edit the file.

The Markdown language module now supports syntax coloring.

Not in that order … the unexplained reference to the language module came before the mention of the actual feature … but that’s not the point. The point is “lol BBEdit has Markdown!1!!”

And so does your precious TextMate, which I don’t own even though it seems very nice.

What a pleasant surprise. It offsets the bitter knowledge that I will not be owning an iPhone any time this decade.

It kind of calls for a celebration. I switched my editing font from my long-standing 12 point Monaco to 14 point Georgia, because if my markup can now be done in a humane fashion, the text might as well look a little more humane.
