My Digital Life in Chaos

July 31st, 2006  |  Published in etc

Well, we had the earlier unpleasantness with Gmail this morning, and Dreamhost’s ongoing antics re: Web, mail and the Jabber server. What seemed orderly and largely IN CONTROL is now sort of chaotic and unpredictable and I’m not happy about it. I’m even feeling crabby in that “Something is gonna have to give” way that might entail all sorts of drastic stuff.

For the moment, if you want to mail it’s best to just use the puddingbowl address and if you want to chat your best bet is pdxmph on AIM. Dreamhost doesn’t seem to lose mail, even in the throes of inexplicable inadequacy, but the Jabber server they “give” you is all over the place.

As noted in ~/.plan, all sorts of things follow from this kind of realignment. Like … why bother with Firefox if you mostly used it to make Google offerings work better but otherwise felt ambivalent about it compared to maybe Safari and definitely OmniWeb?
